In the name of God, The One. In commemoration of the birth of the best of creation ﷺ. The numbers of salawat in this piece is 313, which has sacred significance.
Dedicated to my late father, Abdul Hameed, who has passed away on February 10th, 2022 (Rajab 9, 1443). May God encompass in Mercy him and all of our parents, our teachers and guides on the path, our families, the martyrs, the besieged and oppressed, and all Believers wherever they are, and grant protection and victory against the the Arch-Liar [the Dajjal].
Who does God make mention of? He makes mention of Rasulallah ﷺ. When you perform salawat [Dhikr Rasūlillāh] with the intention of pleasing God, it is in fact God making you an expression, modality, and locus of His pleasure, which is eternally bathing in light the reality of Muhammad ﷺ. And thus a person becomes absorbed in the gnosis of this sacred primordial light, a remembered being, nothing left of their false self. Thus has one entered into true state of iman [faith], which is to love the Rasul ﷺ more than one's own self. The Believer is the one who has awakened in this state, the new self has arisen in this world as that which is set ablaze by the illuminating light of Prophetic Love. It is from this state that the Companions - the Oath Keepers - gave the pledge of allegiance to the Rasul ﷺ, that is, the oath of death.
The Rasul ﷺ was the perfect embodiment of the "Two Hands of God" as Majesty [Jalal] and Beauty [Jamal. The Qur'an states:
God said, "O Iblees, what prevented you from prostrating to that which I crafted with My Two hands? Were you arrogant [then] or were you [already] among the haughty?" [38:75].
The Rasul ﷺ has many names, known and unknown, all of which are descriptions of the Perfected Man [al-Insan al-Kamil], fashioned by God as His Shadow on Earth and the ruler of the created world, who inscribed the name "Muhammad" on the Throne. As Shaykh Ibrahim Osi-Efa says, this is our cosmology. The rebellion of satan was resentment towards the one God appointed to the Maqam al-Mahmud [the Praised Estate], which is the Seat of Lordship.
The narrations describe some of the majesty of the Prophet ﷺ: he possessed a body that was a testament to both natural strength and divine grace. He was large-boned with broad shoulders and a broad chest, his large joints including his elbows, knees, and wrists all indicating a powerful and commanding frame. His biceps were large, his forearms and palms broad, as were his hands and feet, clear signals of a capable build. His stomach was in line with his chest, lean and taut, his calves large and his heels light and firm. His very manner of walking reflected this strength; he was swift-footed with a firm step, moving quickly and powerfully as if descending a slope, and he never seemed to tire, often out pacing his Companions. In battle, his movement was described as imposing, and some of his swords were known to be large and heavy.
At Uhud, Ubay bin Khalaf arrived in his armor, riding that horse of his, shouting, "Muhammad! May I not survive if you survive!" He charged the Messenger of God ﷺ, intent on killing him, but was intercepted by some Companions who said, "O Messenger of God ﷺ! Shall one of us turn to face him?" The Messenger of God ﷺ ordered them to clear the way and replied, "Leave him!" When Ubay charged, the Prophet ﷺ advanced towards him and took hold of the spear from al-Harith. The Rasul ﷺ sighted the clavicle of Ubay that showed through a small gap between his helmet and breastplate. One of the witnesses said that the Prophet ﷺ leapt with such force that it sent the people scampering away like gadflies off the back of a camel. The thrust of the Prophet ﷺ landed in between the gap with a force that sent Ubay flying off his horse in a great fall. Thereupon was revealed the verse, "You threw not when you did throw, but God threw." [8:17]. Ubay's friends recounted later that they found him drooping like a tired bull heading towards Mecca. They asked him, "What is ailing you? It is only a scratch!" But he reminded them of the saying of the Messenger of God ﷺ, "I shall slay Ubay", then he said, "If the wound I just received were suffered by the people of Dhul Majaz, they would all perish!" Then Ubay collapsed and died, fulfilling what the Prophet of God ﷺ foretold.
In terms of his beauty, the Prophet ﷺ was the most handsome of men, possessing a face of such perfection that Al-Bara'ā narrated, "The Prophet ﷺ had the most handsome face amongst men and he had the best appearance". His smile was a radiant light that would illuminate as if it were a portion of the moon, elating all around him. He was described as having a "very luminous complexion", white and golden like the moon, and as if fashioned from silver, a reference to the sacred light. Jabir ibn Samurah reported that he saw the Prophet ﷺ on a clear night, looking at him and the moon, exclaiming that the Prophet ﷺ was even more beautiful and radiant than the moon itself.
